Multiple systemic extraneural metastasis of glioblastoma

Abstract

We present a rare case of extraneural metastatic glioblastoma (GBM) with review of literatures. The patient remained healthy for approximately 1 year after operation, without signs of intracranial recurrence. Thereafter, he presented severe right sided orbital and facial pain with severe right-conjunctival injection and chemosis. Brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed multiple tumors in the bilateral extraocular muscles (EOM) and the right infratemporal fossa. Laboratory examination revealed thrombocytopenia. Multiple metastatic tumors in the neck and the multiple levels of vertebrae were detected using whole-body positron emission tomography. We performed biopsies of the bone marrow and EOM. Pathological results confirmed metastatic GBMs.
