Occupational Asthma and Rhinitis due to Cyanoacrylate Glue

Abstract

Cyanoacrylate has been mostly used as a component of a high strength glue for pasting different materials. We report a case of occupational asthma and rhinitis due to cyanoacrylate. After 70 days of exposure a 44-year-old female developed work-related symptoms including cough, dyspnea, and rhinorrhea. The bronchial challenge test showed a negative result after placebo inhalation, but showed a late asthmatic response after cyanoacrylate exposure. The second methacholine bronchial challenge test after cyanoacylate BPT showed increased airway hyperresponsiveness. After complete avoidance and anti-asthmatic medication, her asthmatic symptoms were much improved.
